The Dangers of Prescription Drugs
There are many dangers of prescription drugs. Most of them do help us out when we have pain, depression, anxiety, allergies and other ailments. But there is a very bad downside as well. They are easily addictive and could have terrible side effects. Some can cause liver damage and suicide. You and your doctor have to be very careful in deciding what will be right for you. You need to be made aware of the possible side effects and you should also do your research on a medication before using it. Many teens with depression have committed suicide because of certain anti-depressants. Even over the counter drugs can be dangerous as well. You can even get liver damage from taking too much Tylenol and Aspirin. It is scary that the medications we use every day could harm us instead of making us feel better.
These days lots of prescribed drugs are being sold on the streets for people to get high. Even people who really don't need them for pain or depression still take them to get high. It's sad that these things are being sold on the streets just as much as illegal drugs. Even children have been known to buy them and sell them just so they can get high. What's scary is these drugs that are being sold to our kids can kill them. Especially if they don't know what they are buying and whether or not it has something in it that can cause an allergic reaction and make them sick or kill them. Even the over the counter nasal sprays are being used by kids to get high. I have seen this on the news so many times and it's so sad that the kids of today are only worried about getting their quick high. I wonder if they even stop and think about what it could do to them and if it is really worth it.
People get highly addicted to these drugs and eventually will take them for the rest of their lives. Some people are so afraid of getting addicted that they won't take them even if they need them really bad. My dad is one of those people. He has a mental condition and he really could use something to calm him down. He is very hyper and very angry all the time. But he refuses to even try any kind of ant-depressant or any kind of prescribed drug for that matter because he is afraid he will get addicted and be stuck taking them for the rest of his life. Now I am on ant-depressants myself and I know I will have to be on them for the rest of my life because if I even miss one dose I have severe panic attacks. There is nothing I can do about it. I would rather have to take a pill every morning for the rest of my life than to have to put up with panic attacks every day for the rest of my life.
So for many of us prescription drugs are very helpful and aide us in our depression and pain. But for some there is a big problem because they get easily addicted and either sell them to people on the streets or buy them off of people on the streets. They are so highly addicted they don't care how they get them. As long as they get the chance to get high. It is a very sad and scary world we live in today. Just when we find out there is something out there to help us then all of a sudden we find out it can harm us as well.
